Ordinary shares are units of ownership in a company. They possess a greater element of risk to the investor as the investment in the company is affected by market forces and there is no guarantee that the original investment will be returned when they are sold. Ordinary shares entitle the holder to vote on measures at the company’s AGM and to receive dividends, but they are the last creditors to receive anything if a company goes bankrupt.
